Saturday: This would be the last weekend my cousins and I have together before two of my darling cousins head back for USA on Thursday morning. Darrell and I popped down to Edwin’s house in the early afternoon to camp there whilst waiting for my sister cousin pair to reach. We practically slacked the whole afternoon away... O yeah! Part of the time was spent watching the show ‘4 Brothers’ together – it’s a pretty good movie! The cast were a perfect fit for the characters they were supposed to portray and the storyline’s not crappy or anything like that. Jacky in the show is so cute by the way.
I met my aunt for the first time in two years that day too! Goodness, I was really so surprised she came. It’s been a really long time but she hasn’t changed much. She was gushing about how the rest of us have grown over the years though. She still looks pretty, pretty! That late afternoon, she bought us pizza. And we snacked on it during the movie. During dinnertime, it was Earth Hour. My uncle’s so unsporting, he just refused to switch off the lights and he continued watching some Hong Kong or Taiwan drama. And my tactless cousin kept going on and on about how if I was the only Earth Hour zealot, it wasn’t gonna make any difference in the world, so why bother? Such audacious thoughts, so irritating. Luckily I had the other female cousins on my side so we shot him back till he had to shut. *smug* We took a stroll to Eastpoint only to find some performance going on outside BK and the lights mostly still bright everywhere. Only in some restaurants could you see the lights being dimmed for that hour. It’s a mere hour; couldn’t people just invest a little consideration for Mother Earth? And quit having that same thought as my cousin because in my opinion, it’s simply just a very pathetic excuse for pure laziness.
Sunday: Early in the morning, the whole troop of relatives got up even before dawn broke to head to Chua Chu Kang Chinese Cemetery to pray to my Ah Kong, even the cousins willed themselves to wake up. Somehow that area was very misty/foggy in the early morning, it’s as if it was meant to shroud the place in mystery or something. Quite cool though, it’s not something you get to witness in Singapore very often. There was a queue of vehicles waiting to turn into the main street of the cemetery so it took longer than usual to get in. The morning air that greeted me as I stepped out of the car was fresh, and the morning dew made it very cooling. The whole bunch of us went to find my Ah Kong’s tombstone and we started praying. My female cousins and I started wandering around the area and we spotted several other tombstones embossed with pictures and wordings of little children, some a mere 3 or 4 years old. It’s pretty sad. As the morning wore on, the fresh air was infiltrated by the burning of incense and pretty soon, we all smelled of incense smoke. It didn’t bother us though. Breakfast followed and soon, we found ourselves back at our cousin’s house doing nothing while our sister cousin pair headed for some other party in the afternoon. After the pair of them came back, dinner was at the hawker centre at Eastwood. My cousins really miss the Singapore cuisine so they were able to indulge that night.
Monday: School as usual again and every morning when I walk with my cousin, I’ll meet his bunch of friends at Cheers opposite school so I’m starting to get pretty familiar with them. They’re all really good natured kids, unfortunately, they are all irrevocably in love with Dota -.- I was supposed to treat my cousins that evening but my uncle decided to take us out for seafood dinner so my treat was postponed to Wednesday. Seafood dinners to me are like any other dinner, because I don’t really eat anything that’s very marine, except maybe for the fish dish. No pepper crab. No chilli crab. No prawns for me. What a lousy eater!
Tuesday: I was assigned to my cousin’s class today! So I went in and technically, it’s also the first class in which I’m teaching something on the whiteboard. Usually I just move around the class giving one to one coaching on certain questions but today, I went through their worksheet in front of the entire class. HAHA! Exhilarating. My cousin was talking to me about it as we walked home that day – he said I’m such an actor because I acted so fierce in class. I actually succeeded in portraying such an image! And he also marvelled at how nobody slept during my class even though he said his class usually ALWAYS has people sleeping during each lesson. So most of them could actually submit their work – I’m pretty happy! Accomplished man!
That afternoon was tuition with Nik again after a week. She has really magically matured since she received her common tests results. I must say I’m quite proud of her and I really hopes she does much better in future. She’s such a smart girl, it’d be a pity if she doesn’t.
Wednesday: This morning on the bus I met Ms Chiam, my mother’s home econs teacher back in secondary school. It’s my second time seeing her on bus 12 in the morning. I didn’t call her the first time but since my mum told me I should, I did so today. She was pretty nice and she remembered me –even my name- even though she only met me once. In future, I guess if I see her means I must say ‘Hi’ already. Oh well.
Today afternoon, I headed over to my cousin’s house again and my sister cousin pair were there doing their homework, brought all the way from USA. It was quite a funny sight because the living room was in a huge mess with books and notes all strewn around. Two of them had tuition so the rest of us waited for them to be done with it. After they were done, we still had to wait for my brother to slowly make his way from I don’t know where. Finally, we hit full attendance –all 6 of us present- and my uncle brought us to Changi Airport T2 Sakae Sushi for dinner. My TREAT! But my uncle subsidized for me $70 so ultimately, I only had to pay about $45 more. I also gave my cousins who are heading back to USA a card which I made the night before and therefore caused me to have a freaking tiring day today. I was a walking zombie teacher half the time.
I'm gonna miss them so much. I wish all my cousins could just come back to Singapore. It sounds cool having cousins hailing from all parts of the world but I would still very much love to have them back closer to home. Technology can only do so much =( Then again, don't we all have to make do with the situation? It's an innate survival skill. Bon Voyage my dearest darlings!
PS: Table of Glory premiers today! Dai Yang Tian is uber cute, I swear! ^^ And that Teresa girl fron campus superstar looks weird, somehow. Sorry to boys out there if she makes you drool ;p
